There are so many great ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day! Everything from planting a garden to large scale volunteer events. Let’s touch base about a rewarding Earth Day idea that no one else is talking about!
This mini article is about easy and free ways to celebrate Earth Day.
But first… let’s see if you can challenge yourself this year to consider a free easy activity with Earth Day in mind.
Easy, Free, and Fun Earth Day Challenges
Challenge One: Plant some seeds
To ensure this activity is truly free, make sure you don’t spend money on the seeds. Try planting some things this year.
Do you have left over seeds from a previous year? Will a neighbor or friend share their seeds with you?
Some libraries or seed banks will give you seeds for free! Try to obtain some and get them to sprout. We have a big bag of chia seeds that we will sprout every now and again to enjoy some micro greens! Yum!
Challenge Two: Pick up litter
Another free and immediately beneficial activity is to pickup litter around your neighborhood or park. Challenge yourself to pick up at least 10 pieces of trash for Earth Day. Keep it easy and fun!
You can do this when you walk your dog or when you check the mail. Just grab a grocery bag and a glove (if you have it). No gloves are required if you wash your hands well afterwards and being careful with what you touch, always keeping safety in mind. Bring the family along on a walk and do this together.
Challenge Three: Don’t make any purchases
One of the best ways to help the Earth is to avoid unnecessary consumption. Try to use what you already have this year to get through the day and not buy anything. Not only will you save money but you will cut down on waste and lower your consumption rate. Try this easy, feel good way to save money and get creative!
Now imagine if you could get just one more person to do these challenges with you! By making small changes, we can make a bigger and more positive impact on Earth and within our lives.
Celebrate Earth Day by Visiting a National Park
Did you know you can explore National Parks for free without a park pass? This year, National Park Week is hosted during April 20 to April 28, 2004. And on April 20, the first day, entrance fees are waived!
Each year, the National Park Service offers free admission to everyone on certain days (not just the first day of National Park Week). Check out the dates here!
What does this mean for you? This means you can celebrate Earth Day this year by visiting Yosemite, Zion, or even the Grand Canyon for free! Who knows? This may even motivate you to purchase your very own park pass so that you can plan a bigger trip and benefit your favorite parks directly!
Although the bigger parks are super exciting, don’t forget to check out your local park when entrance fees are waived. This is a fun and free resource you can use to scope out your next big adventure. Plan a trip with friends or family the next time!
On Earth Day this year, check if your local park will be hosting a volunteer event. For actual Earth Day this year, April 22, 2024, there are many volunteer activities you can join.
Always be safe and see you outside!
