If you were in the United States on April 8, 2024, you may have had the privilege to experience the solar eclipse!
There was an exciting buzz throughout the community leading up to this event, and the day itself was an interesting one!
This is why Nature Consort wanted to come out with a mini-article and check in with you all about this special day. We’ll keep this short and sweet, but we just really couldn’t let this unique astronomical event pass by without paying tribute.
The Solar Eclipse Totality Event
Some areas experienced totality – when the moon traveled between the sun and earth, revealing the sun’s corona. Eclipse viewing events were hosted throughout different locations on the North American continent. Texas, Oklahoma, and Mazatlan, Mexico experienced complete totality! The event, televised and well documented by NASA, reported strange behavior from wildlife, eerie sensations felt between people, and drops in temperature.
Solar eclipse glasses were easily accessable through schools, science centers, and online shops. Another safe alternative for viewing the solar eclipse was to create an eclipse viewing box.
Although Nature Consort didn’t experience totality where we were based, we were still able to capture some photos of eclipse shadows to share with you!
From about mid-morning to mid-afternoon, we experienced almost a “hazy” feeling in the atmosphere as a result of the moon blocking some of the radiation from the sun. While things did seem typically normal, it almost felt a bit strange and hazy throughout the day. The sky and daylight certainly didn’t not seem as bright, and we didn’t need eclipse glasses to detect it.
August 23, 2044 will be the next total solar eclipse that can be viewed from the contiguous United States. Don’t forget to save the date!
